Hi, I got the same situation as you. Last year, I moved from Montreal to Halifax. I do not drive a lot (once every two weeks), but I have to pay the insurance and parking!

I have a 98 year car, but my license is only 2 years old. My car insurance in Montreal is only $40 (one way)per month. When i moved here, i phoned at least 10 car insurance company. The cheapest one is TD Monnex (one way)$113 per month. I talked to one agent, and he told me that The car insurance in Quebec is the cheapest in Canada. The reason of that is the liabilty coverage is cheap. For example, if you have a car accident in Quebec, and hurt somebody. The victim could not sue you for compensation. The goverment will take care of that. If it happens here, the victim could sue you, and ask for compensation. In this case, the car insurace will pay for this lawsuit up to the third party liability ( usually $1 million or $2 million). Aothough the possibility of accident could be small, but the money car insurace company have to pay could be a large amount. That's why they charge you so much. I looked up my policy, the third party liability( up to $1 million)?is most expensive part, around $1000 per year.

If you really want to save some money on car insurance, and you do not drive a lot, you could have a car insurance, and put?your car ?into storage. This way, You are not covered by the third party liability, so you could not drive. But your car is covered by stolen and damage. In this case, you will get most of premium back.

Anyway, you should shop around, and find the cheapest one. It is a good way to practise your English too.<img src="http://bbs.cssans.com/images/smiles/tongue-out.gif" border="0" onclick="javascript:window.open(this.src);" alt="" style="CURSOR: pointer" onload="javascript:if(this.width>screen.width-500)this.style.width=screen.width-500;" />

Good luck with that!
