Nova Scotia universities are ex
periencing their biggest
decline in enrolment in five years.

Atlantic Universities recently released a survey showing the number of full-time students is down 2.2 per cent — or 814 students — over last year.

The biggest drop is at Cape Breton University. With 217 fewer full-time students, the university has experienced a decline of 7.5 per cent.
; h, Z7 ~1 S. Y4 H% W$ _At both Acadia and Saint Mary's universities, enrolment has fallen 6.1 per cent.

Universities are facing a shrinking pool of young adults at the same time that they are seeing an increase in costs, a situation that has led at least one university, Acadia, to lay off staff recently.
