letter from DSU president
On Tuesday, April 19th at 2:00pm the Board of Governors will meet to consider
the proposed fee increases that were recommended in BAC XXXI – i.e., 3.9%
general increase for graduate and undergraduate students; 9.28% differential
increase from professional students (med, law and dent); and, an $810 increase
in the current differential fee that is applied to international students.

At the last meeting, on March 22nd, I saw what I think was the most powerful and
effective display of student activism (yes, I said it!) in my 5 years involved
in the DSU. Medicine, law, dentistry, international and other students stood
solemnly outside of the entrance to the Board of Governors meeting as Governors
passed them en route to the meeting. From the discussion at the table I know
that your presence was meaningful in guiding their comments. Personally, I was
motivated to push the cause beyond the scope of what we had prepared to do, as
student reps., due to your presence. That said, the final decision will be
made at the meeting on Tuesday and I urge you to attend. If we can re-create
the scene that was present outside of the last meeting I am confident that
Governors will consider that in their decision making.

The above message is form Curtis (DSU President 2004/06). DISA is highly
suggesting you all to come and join others. See you on Tuesday at 13:45 at the
main floor of Henry Hicks building at Lord Dalhousie room.
